Does it matter what time of day I collect my FIT sample?
No. You may collect your sample when it is most convenient for you. We do recommend collecting your sample at home rather than in a public restroom for sanitary reasons. For people who menstruate: if you have any bleeding from the vagina, you should wait until you see no blood for 3 days before you take your FIT.
It is recommended that a positive FIT should be followed up with a diagnostic test (performed by a physician) to determine the cause of blood in your stool. The most common diagnostic test is a colonoscopy, which is typically performed by a Gastroenterologist – a healthcare provider that specializes in the intestinal tract. A colonoscopy allows for a complete evaluation of the colon and removal of potentially precancerous polyps.
